MYRTLE BEACH — The South Carolina GOP is making final preparations for its largest grassroots training event in the state party's history, scheduled for this weekend.
The three-day event will run Oct. 29-31 at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort and Spa at Grand Dunes and was pitched as the "First in the South Republican Action Conference.”

The event is offering one of the first opportunities for potential 2024 presidential contenders to speak to a conservative crowd in this early presidential primary state.
Confirmed speakers include U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.; former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus; U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.; former White House physician and U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas; U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla.; and GOP media personality Armstrong Williams, who is a native of Marion in the Pee Dee.
So far, around 350 guests have signed up to attend so far, SCGOP spokeswoman Claire Brady said.
The conference has drawn the ire of some members of the Horry County Republican Party who have reportedly felt they were cut out of the planning.

Another rally called the “I Pledge Allegiance” tour is scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at the nearby Myrtle Beach Sports Center, according to a flyer on the Horry County GOP Facebook page.
Some of the headliners for that conference include conservative personalities Diamond and Silk, “Uncle Si” from A&E’s show “Duck Dynasty” and failed GOP congressional candidate Kim Klacik from Maryland.
Eric Carroll, the organizer of the "I Pledge Allegiance" event, told The Post and Courier that he didn't want any drama surrounding the gathering and he wanted it to focus on "traditional values."

State party Chairman Drew McKissick said he wasn’t concerned about the Horry County GOP event, and said the Myrtle Beach conference is focused on getting Republican activists and campaign operatives educated to win in next year’s elections.

"The biggest obstacle is always just preparation, just getting everything finalized and scheduling and so forth," McKissick told The Post and Courier earlier. "We got a great crowd coming and more people registering every day."
