EL PASO, Texas — Covid-19 booster shots will be made available as part of a vaccination drive this upcoming weekend, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso announced Tuesday.
Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso will offer both initial doses of the Pfizer vaccine to the un-vaccinated and the Pfizer booster shots for those already vaccinated from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday on their El Paso campus.
Registration is required and you can do so online by clicking here.
Officials said to qualify for a booster shot, you must either be immunocompromised or received your full vaccination more than eight months ago. Doctors said Pfizer booster shots can be administered not only to those who were initially vaccinated with Pfizer, but also to those who previously received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
If you have previously been infected with Covid-19, doctors said you can receive a booster shot if 90 days have passed since testing positive.
TTUHSC said those seeking more information or having questions can call 915-215-4300 or click here.
Meantime, ABC-7 asked the city of El Paso ask about their plans for rolling out the vaccine booster for the general public. A spokesperson for the city said they were still waiting for guidance from the state and federal level about how to roll out the boosters.
As of right now, the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration do not recommend booster shots for the general public, but the advisory committees for both agencies are set to meet later this week to discuss the topic further.
Currently the city of El Paso is offering third dose vaccines to individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised. The third dose is given to individuals 28 days after their second dose in order to give their weakened immune system more protection.
